Higher Lane SEMH Resourced Provision
Higher Lane is home to a 12-place specialist Resourced Provision which opened in January 2024. The children who attend have an EHCP and are placed by the Local Authority in order to meet their specific needs linked to Social Emotional and Mental Health.
Higher Lane Resourced Provision offers a bespoke curriculum that prioritises the social and emotional development of the pupils and their readiness to learn. There is a high ratio of adults to children following an individualised curriculum which supports the children to develop not only their academic learning, but also their social skills, emotional literacy and self-regulation in a way that suits their needs.
We understand that behaviour can be a communication of a child’s unmet SEMH need; our approach to supporting challenging behaviour is positive. We apply restorative and relational approaches using de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies.
In the RP class, as well as delivering a personalised curriculum, we implement specialist interventions and support for children to develop their self-regulation and resilience. We acknowledge that at different times, social and emotional factors can impact on our pupils' learning potential. The interventions that we provide for individuals and small groups aim to unlock a child's potential. Our goal is that children from the SEMH provision develop the skills to be able to join a range of mainstream lessons and activities with the rest of the school, offering the pupils an opportunity to integrate and build relationships with their wider peer group.
